This is one of my favorite courses to play.
The only negatives about this course are that condition isn't the greatest, but for a public course that gets as much play as it does, it's well above average. It can get slow at times, but what public course doesn't. And lastly, the thing annoys me the most about the course, if you decide to play later in the afternoon, utilizing there great twilight rates, be aware of the guy who comes around in a cart and pulls the flag sticks out when there's still plenty of daylight. I hate that guy...
The positives about the course are that the greens are usually in great condition and play fast. This is one of the greatest risk/reward courses around which opens up the possibilty to shoot a great score. There are a few gimmick holes like the 85 yd Par 3 2nd and the drivable 375 yd 14th, but for some reason, they don't bother as much as other courses gimmick holes. Plus, for some reason, I always manage to double bogey the 2nd.
From the 2 or 3 drivable holes to the back to back par 5's on 15 and 16, this one the more fun courses to play. It's built on a big hill so there are a lot of uphill, downhill and sidehill shots. It will require you to play draws and fades and low stingers.
Host of the Norfolk Classic, I would say this course is a must for most golfers. I would not recommend it for the novice, but certainly would encourage them to give it a shot at some point. I shot my best round ever here, and look forward to playing here again. It's cheap, convenient and a lot of fun.
